Every evening, when the moon slipped up into the dark sky and the city slowly slid into its nightly lull, Theodore would find himself enveloped in the familiar warmth of an ancient library room. An odd sided room adorned with bookshelves filled to brim with timeworn novels and crinkly maps, the sandy carpet of leaves rustling under his footsteps and the soft glow of candles casting dancing shadows on the wooden panelled walls. However, the true enchantment of this library lay within an aged door nestled in the corner, a door that was peculiar due to the glowing glass perched above it. Not an ordinary aura of light, but one that pulsated with a life of its own, beckoning anyone daring to lose themselves to the extraordinary.
One particular night, succumbing to his curiosity, Theodore placed his clammy hand on the aged doorknob tugging it gingerly. A wave of cool air greeted him as the door creaked open, revealing lush landscapes of verdant meadows, azure skies, fairytale castles, and dragons soaring overhead. The sight was almost fantastical enough to make one believe in magic.
Upon entering this magical world, Theodore felt a sense of excitement and delight that left a tingling feeling running down from the warm crest of his beating heart to the tips of his trembling toes. The vibrant colours, the scent of blooming flowers and the murmuring air whispering tales of bygone heroes, enchanted creatures, and otherworldly adventures were intoxicating. He was in an entirely different universe, a universe borne of dreams and fables and secret childhood wishes.
It was an exhilarating respite from his everyday monotonous life. He could be anyone, do anything, and think anything, and every time he visited, he would return with newfound knowledge and a piece of courage he hadn’t possessed before. He had conversed with mythical beings, fought with valiant knights, and weaved words of wisdom with wise sages.
Every time he walked back through that magical door into the library room filled with leaves and relit candles, Theodore brought with him a piece of the extraordinary world. The library was no longer just an escape from his mundane existence, but it also held the promise of unending adventures, where reality and fantasy wove a harmonious dance, giving him the courage to dream, innovate and inspire others, a living testament to the magic that books and imagination can impart.
