Description
Vintage standard-sized chrome color postcard with a view of women in white burqas sitting beneath gnarled trees in the Place Romaine (Roman Place) in Cherchell, Algeria. Back caption reads, "CHERCHELL Place Romaine A Roman Place". Informative handwritten note reads, "The men have been working fairly hard but I think they have enjoyed it. Weather is marvelous. 75 to 80 every day and cooler at night. Went on a weekend trip & saw Nomads, camels, fig & olive groves & acres of the best grapes we've ever eaten. Saw an entire city of Roman ruins at Djemila. Came across a medicine man sitting on a camel & selling ostrich grease as a cure for many ailments. Dinner from 8 to 10 every evening so Vic & Goldy haven't been playing bridge. I've been working in the O.R. every day. Leave tomorrow for Paris, Athens & Israel." Published by the Agence de Tourisme, Algeria. Divided back, posted to New York from Algeria, 1964 or 1984, but missing stamp. Good condition. See photos.
