Henry Barclay Swete was a renowned Biblical Scholar, being Cambridge University’s Regius Professor of Divinity at the turn of the 19th Century. This commentary on the Book of Revelation, completed in 1906 (this being the second edition, printed in 1907) is his best known work. Swete was such an accomplished scholar that in 1911, King George V personally appointed him to the office of Lady Margaret as her personal preacher. Swete’s life work consists in his study of the Biblical Greek, that being the Septuagint (or the Old Testament) and the Koine (being the New Testament). His commentary heavily employs these Greek and draws allusions or reference from the Greek of the bible, making this a very dense and academic study — so dense in fact that most pages only sport about five lines of the Greek, with the rest being columns of notes, explanation, or commentary on the text at hand. The text is also illustrated throughout.
