Minton Aesthetic Chinese Aster Best Body Dinner Plate Flow Blue 10 1/4" ca 1915. Minton Best Body Aesthetic Chinese Aster Flow Blue 10 ¼” 1915. Minton created this design in the 1870’s and continued it on through the 1920s. It was very popular, hence the heavy duty production. The impressed year mark on Minton china does not indicate when the item was initially designed but when the piece was made. This heavy duty Mintons plate is an example of this. The photographs below cannot correctly show how dark this plate actually is. The utensil marks are abundant. Owen Jones (15 February 1809 – 19 April 1874) was a British architect. A versatile architect and designer, he was also one of the most influential design theorists of the nineteenth century. He helped pioneer modern color theory and his theories on flat patterning and ornament still resonate with contemporary designers today. His Dictionary or Ornament and his Dictionary of Chinese Ornament provide a treasure trove of design for the 19thC potteries to use.
