Description
This is a 1950 Lionel 2343 Santa Fe F3 ABA 3-piece diesel locomotive set. It has die cast frames and trucks, and plastic shells. This is possibly the most famous train Lionel ever made. This is compatible with all 3-rail AC train systems. This set runs great. The powered A unit has dual horizontal worm drive motors with Magnetraction, which have been cleaned and re-lubed with lithium grease and oiled with Labelle 107 fine oil. This can pull a super long train with no difficulty. The power and dummy A units have bright lights in them that work. All grab-irons, ladders, portholes, and mesh screens are intact. The front decals are also in great shape. On the B-unit, observe that the "Indian head" decals are originals and in fantastic condition, and the portholes are clean and show no signs of yellowing. This locomotive runs FOWARD ONLY. The e-unit fell apart and broke, so I directly hardwired it to forward-only operation without an e-unit. This locomotive is very simple as a result and has virtually no possible points of failure. Perfect for younger kids, a Christmas tree setup, a public layout, and it's also a great candidate for a full restoration. The horn did not work, and it and the battery holder had corroded to a point of no return and were removed along with the horn relay, which was also in rough shape. The coupler shoes had crumbled with age so they were also removed. New ones can easily be purchased for cheap and soldered onto the wire.
