THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN MY AUCTION THIS AUCTION IS FOR LIONEL PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD 0-4-0 CLASS A SWITCHER 1975 ISSUE STEAM ENGINE 50 YEARS AGO MOST NOTABLE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD (PRR) LIONEL 0-4-0 SWITCHER (1975 CATALOG) Pennsylvania Class A was the 0-4-0 type, an arrangement best suited to small switcher locomotives (known as "shifters" in PRR parlance).The Pensylvania class A1 was built from 1886 to 1892, when 0-4-0s were being used by other railroads. In time, larger 0-6-0 locomotives were introduced and superseded them on other railroads. However, the Pennsylvania Railroad had many tightly-curving track ways, as well as lines running through suburban areas. The PRR thus elected to use the small locomotives to operate these tight and confined tracks. By the 1920s, class A1 was greatly replaced by the even larger class A5s, the largest 0-4-0s on the PRR at the time. By the 1950s, as the diesel switchers became available for easier and more efficient switching duties, the PRR started to replace the 0-4-0s and 0-6-0s (such as the class B6sb switchers) with diesel switchers. The last of the A1s were withdrawn in 1957, and all were ultimately scrapped. LIONEL's PRR STEAM SWITCHER 6-8506 is their finest example, featuring authentic detail, rugged construction and the powerful Pullmor motor. This engine evokes memories of the days when steam was king and husky brutes like this crisscrossed America. Year Manufactured: 1975 Features: Working headlight Tender with back-up light Sturdy die-cast construction Transformer controlled forward-neutral-reverse operation Powerful Pullmor motor Operates on O-27 or greater curves Condition: Like New Condition, Still in original box. The unit was never ran. Once he got it home and tested it, he'd pack it back up and placed it in a storage box, where it remained until now, unused. It appears to be in excellent condition. The only blemish, no paperwork. HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A LAYOUT TO RUN HIS TRAINS!!! The original owner tried to limit his collection to Lionel Limited Editions and unique pieces. He would purchase a piece, bring it home, take it out of its box and set it on a 3 ft. section of track. Along with a small transformer to test electronics, that's all he had!! Then he would take pictures of his purchases and then put them in their boxes, and THEY NEVER LEFT THEIR BOX AGAIN!! NEVER RUN ON RAILS!!!! Now..
