Description
Leon Golub (1922–2004) The Caress, 1950 Signed lower right L. Golub and dated 1950 . Framed figurative lithograph. A beautiful example of the early work of a major American artist. Dating from the period when Golub was finishing his artistic training in Chicago. This lithograph depicts two intertwined figures, a young woman and an older man, or perhaps a mythic figure from the Underworld. It is related thematically to a series of paintings and engravings he made, also titled "The Caress." Condition: This work has been owned by the same family since it was bought from Golub's studio in the early 1950's. It shows the wear and aging consistent with such a history. It is offered as-is.
