Black Forest Carved Walnut Wall Plaque, Eagle with Prey Jacksons Antique are pleased to offer this highly detailed Black Forest walnut wall carving, dating to circa 1900. The plaque captures a dynamic and naturalistic scene of an eagle swooping down with wings outstretched, clutching its prey firmly in its talons. Beneath, eaglets stretch eagerly from their nest in anticipation, carved with remarkable depth and detail. The composition is framed against a rugged mountainous backdrop with carved tree stumps and rocky outcrops, enhancing the three-dimensional quality of the work. Carved from solid walnut, the plaque demonstrates the lifelike detail that made Black Forest carving so admired at the turn of the 20th century. Originally produced in the Alpine regions of Switzerland, these carvings were popular decorative pieces, prized for their bold naturalistic depictions of wildlife and forest life.
