Antique C 1877 Handmade Miniature Child’s Basket Provenance Note &Original Paint. I find it to be very old, interesting, and a mystery! This is a small, antique handmade basket with a note of provenance tacked to it, dating it to 1877! Is it Leory, Corey, or?. The note states that the basket was made in 1877 by Stephen …. Recently I found a few antique primitive pieces that I would like to share with the eBay community, especially this little basket! I find it to be very old, interesting, and a mystery! This is a small, antique handmade basket with a note of provenance tacked to it, dating it to 1877! Too bad I can’t make out the family surname even though it appears no less than 5 times on the note! Is it Leory, Corey, or? The note states that the basket was made in 1877 by Stephen ….. for his great granddaughter Ella T. …… It goes on to list Ella’s Father as William H. ….. and a John F. ….. In one place I think the writer meant to say ‘grandfather’ and not ‘granddaughter,’ but I’m noir sure I’m reading this correctly. Anyhow, it is a venerable old piece, petite in size as though it were made for a child, measuring roughly 6 1/4” long by 4” wide and 5” tall to the top of the handle. It appears to have at least two coats of different off-white paint colors on it, worn in places to show the dark brown wood material underneath. It is very firm and unyielding, likely from the thick, hardened paint. I found it with the note tacked to it (one tack missing, but a tiny hole in the basket to tell the tale of where it had been). The basket with the note attached were bundled in a clear ziplock bag, where it waited on the shelves of a local thrift store for me to find it. I feel like I rescued a little piece of history! I love old things, but I’m sure there is a basket collector out there who will prize it even more than I do! In the last few pictures I show the other primitive items—a hooked rugs and another basket that you may wish to see. There were all culled from various places, at different times. These other items are NOT included here, but can be seen in separate listings. Please take a look, keeping in mind that I would be happy to combine shipping whenever practical. If more than one item is won, please be sure to ask for, and WAIT for an invoice combining shipping BEFORE paying.
